Bollywood News – Sushant SIngh Rajput Suicide: The actor signed a 3-film deal with YRF; Was paid 1 crore for Detective Byomkesh Bakshi for breach of contract
The Mumbai Police recently questioned YRF’s casting director Shanu Sharma regarding the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput, and obtained copies of the actor-signed contract with Yash Raj Films, which has brought new light to the case. Apparently, Sushant signed a 3-film deal with the production house, and his remuneration for each film depended on the box-office result of his previous film with the studio. However, as is common knowledge so far, only two films were made by YRF with actors, Shuddh Desi Romance and Detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
Coming to his remuneration, the contract stipulates that Sushant Singh Rajput be paid Rs. 30 lakhs for his first YRF film, which he received for pure desi romance. The reissue for his second film was either again Rs. 30 lakhs or Rs. 60 lakhs depending on whether the first hit was or not. And for his third film, SSR received Rs. 30 lakhs (if the first was a hit and the second one was a flop, or both flops), Rs. 60 lakhs (if the first was a flop and the second, a hit) or Rs. 1 crore (if both were hits).
However it is revealed that Sushant has to pay Rs. 1 crore for his second Yash Raj venture, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, while the studio, his third film with Paani, was shelved due to director Shekhar Kapur’s inability to lock a script and the film was constantly being postponed. When the police questioned Shanu Sharma and YRF about the breach of contract, which resulted in the actor being paid more than the stipulated limit for his film, no satisfactory response was given.
We wonder what the story may be behind this and hope that the truth will be revealed.
